Muturi Kigano Wins Kangema Parliamentary Seat After 43 Years of Trying

A Nairobi-based lawyer who has tried to vie for a political seat for 43 years has finally fulfilled his dream after winning the Kangema Parliamentary seat.

Mr Muturi Kigano has had his name on the ballot in every election year apart from 2007 and has always been trounced.

He began his journey to the National Assembly while in his 20s when he unsuccessfully contested against the late John Michuki and Joseph Kamotho.

Though the two political bigwigs died, Mr Kigano could still not break through and replace them as he was beaten by new entrant Tirus Ngahu in 2012.

Speaking at a past interview, the lawyer noted that the late Michuki was his political mentor who appointed him to top positions in government after realising that he was a force to reckon with in Kangema, Murang'a County.

“After realising my potential, Michuki appointed me to Kenya Ports Authority as a director of the board in a strategy to keep me off the constituency," he stated.

The city lawyer noted that in the past, leaders were imposed on Kangema people but was now glad that the region was set to have an MP who was not imposed upon them. A leader they elected on their own free will.

The Kangema MP-elect noted that it was his never-say-die attitude that had propelled him all through.

71-year old Kigano is now resting easy after winning the Kangema Parliamentary seat with 32,958 votes after 43 years of trying. He floored John Njoroge of Narc-Kenya who came in second after garnering 7,550 votes.
