Eight people have been killed and several others injured in an accident at Ngonyi area along Meru-Nairobi highway.
Red Cross Central Region Manager Gitonga Mugambi confirmed the incident stating that the injured persons had been rushed to the Meru Level 5 Hospital.
The accident occurred about 25 kilometers from Meru town after the matatu lost control while trying to overtake a boda-boda and rammed into a lorry.
According to Mugambi, the matatu was heading from Meru to Chuka for a dowry presentation ceremony while the lorry was heading in the opposite direction.
"They had hired two matatus to attend the ceremony but unfortunately got involved in an accident," Mr Mugambi stated.
Police had a difficult time removing the wreckage to clear the traffic jam.
