Uhuru Kenyatta to Fly to Rwanda to Attend Inauguration of President Paul Kagame

President Uhuru Kenyatta will travel to Kigali on Friday morning for a one-day visit for the inauguration of President Paul Kagame, following his re-election in Rwanda's August 4 poll.

In a statement sent on Thursday evening, President Kenyatta congratulated the people of Rwanda for "choosing decisively and democratically; and he congratulates President Kagame for the trust Rwandans have shown in him."

The President will attend the inauguration to show Kenya's solidarity with the people of Rwanda and their government.

He will be among 20 Presidents and heads of government expected to grace the event which will be held at the Amahoro National Stadium.

During the August 4 polls which attracted two more candidates, Kagame won overwhelmingly with 98 percent of the votes in his favour.

Kenya and Rwanda have long been allies and friends. After Kenyatta was declared the winner of the country's presidential race, Kagame was among the first residents to send a congratulation message.

"Congratulations my brother @UKenyatta for a successful election and the trust Kenyans have placed in you! Pamoja tuzidi kujenga umoja na maendeleo ya mataifa na jumuiya yetu (let's continue enhancing unity and development of our countries and our region)," he posted on Twitter.

President Kagame's re-election renews that friendship and alliance aimed at enhancing a close working relationship on matters of regional security, regional integration, and infrastructure.
