Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o Sacks 23 County Officials

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o has sent 14 county ministers and nine county executive members on compulsory leave.

He stated that the move was necessary to ensure there is a smooth transition as he takes over as the county chief.

The former Kisumu Senator has further directed the 23 county officials to hand over to the directors of the respective departments.

Responding to the warning issued to governors sacking employees, Prof. Nyong'o noted that his decision was within the confines of the law.

"The contract of the officers ended by the end of the term of the former government, and as a result, I am sending them on compulsory leave," he stated.

He clarified that the action was not aimed at punishing anyone but pure administration work meant to ensure a smooth transition within the county.

He referred to a circular the governors received from the Council of Governors dated August 15 this year, which allowed them as county bosses to come on board with their executive officers.

The newly-elected Governor stated that he would soon appoint new cabinet members to replace the outgoing directors.

Prof. Nyong'o has already replaced Mr Ojwang Lusi, who served as the acting County Secretary in former Governor Jack Ranguma's Administration, with Olang'o Onudi.

Governors have been warned against sacking workers who are not aligned with their political party.

Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe on Wednesday condemned the act stating that the governors firing employees will be held liable.
