Security Beefed Up in Nairobi CBD Ahead of Supreme Court Proceedings

Security has been beefed up around the Supreme Court ahead of the pre-trial conference which will start on Saturday 7 pm.

A contingent of police officers has been deployed to guard the area and to control the movement of people around the court.

The hearings will also affect major roads in the city as they have been shut down to ensure that the case will proceed without any external interference from the public.

Among the roads which will be affected are City Hall Way, Wabera Street which branches from Kenyatta Avenue and Kencom route, and Taifa road.

These roads will be blocked to motorists and pedestrians from Saturday to Tuesday and on Friday next week.

Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi divulged that special badges have been prepared to be issued to those wishing to access the court premises.

"The court room is so small. It takes a maximum of about 60 people, and we already have about 34 lawyers who will be participating. We have strictly recommended that anyone without a special badge should not access the premises," she stated.

The Registrar also indicated that limited media houses would be granted access to cover the proceedings directly.

A special tent will be pitched outside the Court where other accredited journalists will follow the process.

"The journalists will have their discussion from the tent and will have minimal entry into the supreme court.

"This case has attracted a lot of attention and many media houses had applied for accreditation, but we limited the number to 200 considering the space available," added Amadi.
