NASA Asks for 30-Minute Adjournment to Consider Ruling on Access to IEBC Servers

Lawyers representing National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga in the election petition at the Supreme Court on Monday requested the court for an adjournment.

Led by Siaya Senator-elect James Orengo, the lawyers sought the court's indulgence in granting a 30-minute recess for the teams to consider the new orders given concerning access to the IEBC servers.

Justice Isaac Lenaola had just minutes before read a ruling granting the petitioners read-only access to select data and equipment the IEBC used to conduct the August 8 poll and transmit election results.

The court, however, rejected NASA's request to have "unfettered access" to the IEBC servers.

"This ruling has an impact on the way we had planned to present our case and in fact, it enables us to crystallise our case in the light of this order.

"We request for a short adjournment so that we know how we are going to proceed with the implementation of these orders and make some consultations with the first (IEBC) and second (IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati) respondents particularly," Mr Orengo requested.

After considering Senator Orengo's request, Chief Justice David Maraga allowed the recess and the court was adjourned to reconvene after 30 minutes.
