Police have refuted claims that Bungoma Senator-elect Moses Wetangula’s bodyguard was fired following a scuffle with his superiors at the Supreme Court building.
Senator Wetangula on Tuesday demanded reinstatement of his bodyguard, constable Simon Lonyang', saying due process must be followed.
Mr Lonyang' is said to have been dismissed from the National Police Service on Tuesday after an altercation at the Supreme Court.
On Monday, he had engaged in a scuffle with his seniors after trying to enter the Court room in the company of Wetangula while armed.
The incident sparked a scene at the entrance after the officers deployed to man the area blocked their entry following an earlier directive to restrict armed persons from accessing the court room.
Following the altercation, Lonyang' was forcefully disarmed and ejected from the premises.
The Constable was later whisked away to Central Police Station despite protests from NASA leaders who were present during the scuffle.
After the arrest, Central Police Station OCPD Robinson Thuku stated that Lonyang' would be arraigned in court to face charges of causing disturbance.
