President Uhuru Kenyatta Ordered to Apologise to CJ David Maraga

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been ordered to apologise to Chief Justice David Maraga for remarks made over the weekend.

A section of Nyamira leaders has asked the President to withdraw a statement in which he referred to the CJ as mkora (thug) failure to which residents would withdraw their support for the government.

Led by Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, Senator Erick Mogeni and some area legislators, the leaders criticised the President equating an attack on Maraga to disrespecting the community.

They warned that if Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto fail to apologise, they will also make it difficult for them to campaign in the region as the country prepares for the presidential election.

According to the Nyamira leaders, by blasting Maraga, President Kenyatta had also attacked members of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), a church in which the CJ is a follower.

They further urged the Head of State to not only respect Maraga as the CJ but also his age, given he is 64 years old.

President Kenyatta has been heavily criticised by different groups following a string of comments criticising the CJ and the Supreme Court judges who, on Friday, nullified his re-election.

On Saturday, the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association cautioned the President for his sentiments urging him to respect the Judiciary.

The same was reiterated by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Isaac Okero who termed Kenyatta's bashing of the courts as unfortunate.

Following the Court's ruling ordering for a fresh presidential election, Kenyatta and DP Ruto criticised the judges accusing them of trying to subvert the will of Kenyatta.

The President announced that if he wins the upcoming polls, he would revisit the issue and "fix" the Judiciary.
