Government Appoints Form 3 Student Hilda Bundi as an Ambassador

Hilda Gacheri Bundi, Form 3 student at Materi Girls School in Tharaka Nithi County has been appointed as an environment ambassador by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

Hilda got the appointment after she who won the hearts of many Kenyans for her creativity when she made a bag made of banana bark and leaves after the ban of plastic bags.

Apart from the appointment, she is set to meet the Ministry Environment and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary Prof. Judi Wakhungu on a later date.

Hilda was going about her business unaware that someone had taken pictures of her and she quickly became an internet sensation among Kenyans.

Her bold move in carrying the banana bark excited Kenyans who pledged to support her in different ways.

Some people lauded for her courage and creativity, offering to pay her school fees because ‘she fought the odds’.

Others offered to buy her a backpack. Others called her ‘Wangari Maathai in the making’.
