IEBC Issues Notice Suspending Voter Registration

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended voter registration and the revision of the voter register until November 8.

In a gazette notice, the electoral body further stated that polling and tallying centres will remain as published by the Commission in June.

IEBC further noted there shall be no nominations for candidates who will participate in the presidential election scheduled for October 17.

They asked political parties and candidates to submit the names of national, county and constituency chief election agents to IEBC before October 2.

The Commission noted that campaigns shall commence on September 6 and end on October 15.

IEBC directed the candidates to conduct their campaigns between 7 am and 6 pm during the campaign period.

Last week, the Supreme Court nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win following a petition filed by the National Super Alliance (NASA).

Chief Justice David Maraga ordered IEBC to conduct a fresh election within 60 days.

NASA Flag bearer Raila Odinga, however, rejected the new Presidential election date set by the IEBC on Tuesday.

Mr Odinga dismissed the election date noting that IEBC had not consulted NASA on the matter.

He further argued that there were thorny issues that needed to be taken care of first before the elections are conducted.
