5 IEBC Commissioners Dismiss Chairman Wafula Chebukati's Memo to CEO Ezra Chiloba

Five Commissioners of the IEBC have disowned a memo that had reportedly been sent from the Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati to CEO Ezra Chiloba.

In a statement issued by Vice-chair Consolata Nkatha and four others, the Commission stated that it was not aware of the 12 issues that had allegedly been raised in the memo.

They affirmed that the issue was brought to their attention by the media after the letter leaked to the media.

According to the Commissioners, the 12 questions contained in the document had not been discussed and sanctioned by the Commission plenary.

"A quick perusal of the memo shows that the allegations are based on some report or information that has not been brought to the attention of the Commission. Most of the issues raised are not factual and could easily mislead if taken out of context," they stated.

However, they stated that the Electoral Commission was reviewing the issues in the memo and would, later on, present comprehensive responses to be presented to the Plenary.

The officials reassured to the country that the body was preparing for a fresh election to be held on October 17.

"Our commitment is to ensure that a credible process is held in line with the principles enunciated by the Supreme Court in its brief judgement," the statement read.

Throughout the day, the alleged memo dominated the country's debate with the online fraternity leading in adding a voice to the debate.

According to the letter, Chebukati sought to know why some printed forms did not have security features, what caused massive failure of satellite phones that cost the country Sh848 Million, why 595 polling stations failed to send presidential election results, why the Commission experienced non-validation of voters after KIEMS identification among other issues.
