IEBC Commissioners and Heads of Secretariat to Go for Retreat

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioners and heads of Secretariat have resolved to go for a retreat this weekend to sort out the issues affecting the body.

The retreat, which was prepared by Chebukati's team, is set to unify all the top electoral officials as they prepare for the October 17th presidential elections.

"We are going through a difficult time, and we need some time to reflect on what has happened through out the week. We do not want to be bothered by politicians that is why we are keeping it to ourselves," one of the officials stated.

According to the IEBC official, the location of the retreat will be kept a secret for security purposes.

The move comes after a week when the Commission has seemingly experienced internal rivalry which has played out in the public.

After the Supreme Court decision to nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta's win, IEBC Chairman noted that he would take action against any officers who interfered with the election.

National Super Alliance (NASA) led by Raila Odinga warned that his party would not participate in the repeat polls until the body is reconstituted.

Chebukati heeded to this request and sidelined several IEBC top officials in the secretariat including the CEO, Ezra Chiloba.

Jubilee Party went ahead to protest the appointed team noting that the new council members were partisan.

A lobby group also went to the court seeking orders to block IEBC from taking disciplinary action against Chiloba, who later went to court demanding an apology and his removal from the case.
