Government Makes New Announcement on Refund for SGR Tickets

Kenya Railways (KR) has announced a new procedure for which commuters who fail to catch the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train will be refunded.

Passengers who are unable to catch the train due to personal reasons will be required to notify the station attendants to cater for a refund of the SGR tickets.

"If the passenger notifies the station attendants before the train departs, the operator shall deduct 20 per cent of the ticket fee (refund fee)," a statement issued on Monday read in part.

Kenya Railways, however, noted that no refunds will be issued after the journey has commenced, at intermediate or destination stations.

Moreover, passengers are advised to make sure their tickets are well maintained and protected from damage to facilitate the refund.

"The ticket is a valuable train taking proof so please keep them properly. Requests for a refund will be rejected in cases where the tickets are damaged (unrecognizable)," KR added.

Earlier on, KR Managing Director Atanas Maina stated that the government had taken additional security measures to ensure the safety of both passengers and smooth operations across the country.
