Leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) have temporarily ended talks with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after accusing the poll body of not being ready to conduct the meeting.
Speaking after a brief meeting with IEBC bosses at Anniversary towers on Tuesday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi stated that the electoral body presented a new document during the talks and they first have to go through it.
"It is clear that IEBC was not ready for this. Our view is that a lot more needs to be done.
"IEBC should have had the courtesy of giving us the document much earlier," he stated after walking out of the session.
It is not yet clear what is contained in the document but the NASA leaders stated that they had to scrutinise it first to see whether their concerns have been addressed.
"We have honoured invitation by IEBC chair for the meeting but we have not seen Jubilee's presidential candidate or his running mate," stated Mudavadi.
In an interesting twist, Deputy President William Ruto arrived a few minutes after opposition leader Raila Odinga had left with his team.
In the meeting, IEBC and two sides were scheduled to discuss, among others, plans for the October 17 repeat presidential election after the Supreme Court quashed Mr Kenyatta's re-election.
Nasa wants IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba sacked for allegedly bungling August 8 poll while Jubilee has rejected the project team named by Chairman Wafula Chebukati to manage the repeat poll.
Over the weekend, leaders allied to Jubilee had accused IEBC Chebukati of holding night meetings with members of the opposition, allegations that Chebukati strongly refuted.
He promised to review the feedback submitted by its secretariat concerning flaws in the August 8 presidential election, adding that they will also assess how they conducted the elections so that they may know what needs to be improved.
"We are coming out as one team with a common vision that will enable us deliver on our mandate," Mr Chebukati said after a retreat in Naivasha.
