Uber, Taxify, Little Cab and Mondo Taxi Drivers Hold Demonstrations in Nairobi

There was traffic snarl up in parts of Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon after a section of drivers under the Kenya Digital Taxi Association staged demonstrations.

The disgruntled drivers operating under Uber, Taxify, Little Cab and Mondo mobile applications drove through various streets honking their cars with their number plates covered to avoid being reported.

They drove through Ring Road, Uhuru Highway, Ngong Road, Waiyaki Way and some CBD streets.

Some motorists complained of being harassed by the striking drivers.

This came as their employer stated that any acts of violence and intimidation among drivers and partners would not be tolerated even as they exercised their rights.

On Monday taxi drivers operating on online platforms in Nairobi announced that they would be on an indefinite strike. They accused their service providers of unfriendly policies.

The drivers issued a statement discontinuing their services indefinitely until certain terms are met.

Their complaints include the companies' decision to increase discounts and introduce free rides without consultation.

The drivers also demanded an immediate increase in the minimum charge and the firms to stop the onboarding of new drivers.
