IEBC Cancels Meeting With NASA

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has postponed a meeting it had scheduled with leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) to a later date.

The poll body was set to meet the opposition today to address various issues that had been raised ahead of the fresh Presidential elections.

On Wednesday, IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba had confirmed that the commission would meet NASA leader Raila Odinga's team which has demanded his sacking.

The opposition had also demanded the sacking of returning officers implicated in what they allege was massive rigging and the change of the Dubai-based Al-Ghurair as the printer of the presidential election ballot papers.

It is not yet clear why the election body pushed forward the meeting but it is understood that NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi had on Wednesday stated that they would not show up for the meeting.

On Tuesday, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati was to hold a meeting with members of the opposition at Anniversary towers but the meeting failed to take place after the NASA team claimed they had been issued with a new document that they had to read first.

The leaders stated that it appeared like Chebukati was afraid to meet them because he later agreed to meet Deputy President William Ruto at the same venue.

NASA has maintained that the IEBC should undergo major changes to ensure the credibility of elections and has even threatened that there will be no elections if their demands are not met.
