Lorry Driver Arrested After Blocking DP Ruto's Motorcade

A lorry driver was arraigned in court on Wednesday for obstructing Deputy President William Ruto’s motorcade in Machakos on Sunday.

Shadrack Nzomo Musyoki was accused of obstructing DP Ruto’s motorcade by stopping in the middle of the road, hence, posing danger to Kenya's second-in-command.

The incident happened at the Vota Junction area along the Mombasa-Nairobi Road in Machakos.

Musyoki was charged with obstruction and failing to obey verbal instructions contrary to section 53(1) as read with section 53(4) of the Traffic Act.

The suspect pleaded guilty to the charges before Senior Magistrate Yusuf Shikanda who ordered him to pay a fine of Sh12,000.

Section 53(1) of the Traffic Act states that no vehicle shall be allowed to remain in any position on any road so as to obstruct or to be likely to obstruct or cause inconvenience or danger to other traffic using the road.

Section 53(4) further cites: "Any person who leaves any vehicle on a road in such a position or manner or in such a condition as to cause or to be likely to cause any danger to any person shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding fifty thousand shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year."
