Moses Kuria's Surprise Reaction to Petition On Removing CJ Maraga from Office

Fiery Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has spoken out on the petition filed by Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu seeking to remove Chief Justice David Maraga from office.

Addressing the media, Kuria stated that, together with other legislators, he would talk to Mr Wambugu to drop the petition.

The Gatundu South MP observed that the petition was understandable as many were unhappy with the Supreme Court ruling, but Mr Wambugu was "largely out of order".

"I think that the person with a primary interest in this matter was President Uhuru Kenyatta, since he was the candidate after all.... If Uhuru Kenyatta has not found any reason to institute such a petition, then I believe Ngunjiri is largely out of order," Mr Kuria noted.

He went on to add that with Mr Maraga being the head of one arm of government and President Uhuru the head of another, Members of Parliament were grossly underqualified to take on such matters.

Mr Kuria was arrested last week on hate speech charges, spending a night in Pangani Police Station alongside former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.

The two were arraigned in court and released on a Sh 300,000 cash bail.

Meanwhile, the Jubilee Party has distanced itself from the petition announcing that Mr Wambugu filed it in his capacity as a private citizen.

Nonetheless, the Jubilee leadership has promised to curtail the powers of the Judiciary in handling election matters.

President Uhuru had promised to 'fix' the judiciary while Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen spoke in Parliament yesterday on enacting laws that would limit the reach of the judiciary in election matters.
