Student Caught With Exam Papers Ahead of 2017 KCSE

A four form student has been nabbed in possession of purported leaked KCSE examination papers in Makueni County.

The student of Kitondo Secondary School was apprehended with Business Studies Paper 2 and several other exam questions in other subjects which were saved in the Whatsapp images folder in the phone’s gallery.

Confirming the incident, Mbooni East Police Commandant Peter Njeru disclosed that the student had been transferred to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) headquarters at Mitihani house in Nairobi for questioning.

He stated that the principal of the school alerted the police on the student's mischief after which they sought verification from the examination council if indeed the papers were the same ones to be issued to students in November.

"Mr Pascal Musyimi informed the police that the student was accompanied by his mother Martina Wavinya to school after being expelled on September 12 for being in possession of a phone. He was then asked to unlock the phone and that was when he was found in possession of the ‘leakage’ in the gadget,” Njeru said.

The government has assured that preparations for the national examinations are still underway.

On Monday, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i issued a new statement disclosing that his team is ready for this year's national exams, even as the current political activities threaten to interfere with the school calendar.

Dr Matiang'i stated that the national exam dates would not be interfered with but clarified that he would advise in case of any new development.

"IEBC has not communicated anything different from October 17. We are ready to conduct exams.

"We will wait for further directions from IEBC," stated Matiang'i.

Matiang'i also noted that they were ready for changes but revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta had instructed him to ensure schools are safe and protected during the election period.

The country is set to go to the polls again on October 17 although members of the opposition have threatened to boycott the process if changes are not made by the election body.

Some 972, 837 candidates will sit the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) from October 31 while another 573,234 candidates will write the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam between November 3 and November 29.
