Senator Kipchumba Murkomen Attacks Maraga for Daring Uhuru's Team

Chief Justice David Maraga has come under sharp criticism after addressing the media where he condemned top politicians castigating the Judiciary.

Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen in a Facebook post expressed shock that the Chief Justice had called a press briefing to address "media reports".

"It is unheard-of all over the world that a Judge let alone a Chief Justice can call a press conference to respond to media reports and threaten members of public who might find themselves at some point in time in the courts seeking Justice," Murkomen's post read in part.

Senator Murkomen took a swipe at the CJ noting that Maraga spoke with a lot of anger and "like a biased politician".

"It is worse when the CJ speaks like a biased politician who is ready to pay the "ultimate price". When a CJ speaks with such anger then how will Kenyans expect Justice?

"When the political madness created by the Supreme Court will pass away, the Press statement issued by the Chief Justice will be studied and analyzed again," Murkomen stated.

In the Tuesday afternoon press address, Justice Maraga warned that politicians issuing threats would be held responsible if anything happens to judges.

Maraga also dared Jubilee to disband the Judiciary following their persistent attacks on the Supreme Court judges after the decision to nullify President Uhuru Kenyatta's win.

According to the CJ, the demonstrations by Jubilee supporters outside the Courts were meant to intimidate the judges.

"If people are tired of an independent Judiciary, call a referendum and disband it all together," he proclaimed.

He urged Kenyans to defend the independence of the Judiciary against those looking to oppress it.

"We call upon all Kenyans of goodwill to turn out and defend the independence of the Judiciary," he maintained.
