Jubilee Party Nakuru Chairperson Under Investigation Over Hate Speech Remarks

Former Nakuru Town MP and Jubilee Party Nakuru Chairperson David Manyara is under investigation by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over hate-speech remarks.

NCIC Chairperson Francis Ole Kaparo stated on Sunday: "I ask the public to be patient and wait for the investigations to be concluded. Action will be taken if he is found guilty."

The inflammatory remarks captured on video were made last week as Manyara reacted to the full ruling on the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in the August 8th election by the Supreme Court of Kenya.

He addressed National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga, stating: "Let Raila be warned that we are ready for war...He has been telling us that he is the only one with the people behind him. We want to tell him that from today the real Kenyans are going to rise up."

The former lawmaker went on to add: "Let Mr Odinga know that...we will fight with those who are telling us that there will be no election...It is not as if we are carrying children. If necessary those carrying children will have no choice but [to] put the children down and fight."

Manyara was making reference to the NASA's declaration that there will be no election unless their demands on reforming the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission are met.

The Odinga-led coalition has called for the removal of CEO Ezra Chiloba from office, along with several other officials they accuse of intentionally bungling the August 8th polls.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has ordered a probe into the conduct of electoral officials with a view to establishing who was culpable for the irregularities that led to the nullification of the election.

The NCIC was recently in focus after they arrested Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama on similar hate-speech charges following a public outcry.

The two were arraigned in court and released on a Sh 300,000 cash bail each.
