US and EU envoys have issued a warning against National Super Alliance (NASA) and Jubilee for their tough demands that threaten to stop the preparation of the October election.
The Diplomats have threatened travel bans against politicians who issue unreasonable demands that could derail the preparations for the presidential polls.
US Robert Godec and British Deputy High Commissioner Susie Kitchens stated that the country would be in a constitutional crisis if the election was not to take place.
The envoys are pushing the two parties to drop some of their demands and compromise, arguing that most of the requests cannot be met due to time constraints.
Earlier last week, NASA announced that it would protest every Monday and Friday pushing for the removal of IEBC officials among them CEO Ezra Chiloba.
President Uhuru Kenyatta through State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu on Sunday issued a statement thanking Independent institutions for keeping their ground despite being the victim of attacks from the Opposition.
The President called on his opponents who have planned demos from tomorrow to stop intimidating independent offices and start following the law.
"Recently, we’ve seen more than odd behavior. Sections of the opposition political class are acting as though they, not our independent institutions, make and interpret the rules. The rest of us have to conform our actions to the rules, but for them? It is the rules that have to conform to their actions.
"That’s why we’re seeing blatant attempts to force independent bodies to change their advice and their operations by intimidation, crude threats, and actual violence," Esipisu stated.
The President warned that he will not tolerate any attempts to cause harm to the property and lives of Kenyans adding that his government will work to ensure all Kenyans are safe.
"As a government, we won’t put up with systematic attempts to coerce institutions; and we certainly won’t put up with those who regard the lives and livelihoods of innocent Kenyans as nothing more than collateral damage.
