Leaders of the National Super Alliance (NASA) on Monday sent out spies to monitor the situation on Nairobi streets before embarking on their anti-IEBC demonstrations.
The co-principals, led by party leader Raila Odinga were holed up in a meeting at Capitol Hill, where they were putting final touches on their planned demonstrations.
Sources indicate the leaders sent their handlers on the ground to monitor the situation before planning on how to approach the demos.
The messengers were instructed to check out for suspicious characters in the streets and help devise necessary countermeasures.
"As you know, rogue elements from proscribed groups have been given police anti-riot gear.
"The task is simple: to pose as police but with instructions to harm individuals in the opposition," an MP who did not want to be identified revealed.
He further expressed fear after the withdrawal of the security detail of Odinga and running mate Kalonzo Musyoka saying it posed a threat to their lives.
"The fact that their security has been withdrawn by the state complicates their security because you can't differentiate a criminal in full police uniform from a real policeman."
He added that NASA leaders would participate in today's demos unlike last week when they did not turn up.
The leaders, he said, would come atop their vehicles from where they will address their supporters at Anniversary Towers, the IEBC headquarters.
Last week, the government scaled down Mr Odinga, Musyoka and his chief campaigner Musalia Mudavadi's security detail.
The move saw Odinga hire private security to guard his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County.
Inspector-General Joseph Boinnet and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi have defended the move, saying the extra police officers guarding the leaders were required elsewhere.
