The University of Nairobi (UoN) has been shut down indefinitely after a night of protests by students demanding the immediate resignation of Vice-Chancellor Peter Mbithi.
Students at Lower Kabete campus had blocked Lower Kabete Road on Tuesday morning protesting assault by police.
The Senate has ordered all students to vacate the compound by 9am.
According to a circular seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Senate cited 'deteriorating security' as the major reason behind the closure.
Police said they were looking for 35 students expelled from the University who are accused of being responsible for the recent chaos.

This after Prof Mbithi confirmed that he called for reinforcement from police during demos demanding the release of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The students are protesting the brutality police meted out on them and blame the VC for the incident.
Police provided the list of expelled students who are said to be working in cahoots with some their colleagues at the university.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet stated that those involved would be arrested and prosecuted.
