A student who was arrested over suspicions of starting a fire that killed students at Moi Girls School in Nairobi is set to be arraigned in court to face new murder charges.
This is after another student succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire last week raising the death toll to 10.
Last month, the student was charged with nine counts of murder for allegedly planning the tragic fire that killed nine Form One girls.
Nairobi Children's Court Senior Principal Magistrate Teresia Nyangena released the girl on a cash bail of Sh200,000.
The fire is said to have started from the suspect’s cubicle on the night of September 2 before it quickly spread to adjacent ones and eventually destroyed the entire dormitory housing more than 300 students.
Police investigations showed that the 14-year-old girl, alongside four others, planned the attack on a WhatsApp group.
A thread of messages from the five participants shows the main suspect as having been the most vocal regarding the plan, which she said she wanted to execute after failing to be transferred from the school.
An initial report indicated that the girl had tried to commit suicide more than once and wanted to be moved from the school.
