Deputy President William Ruto Makes New Announcement After Private Meeting With IEBC

Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday evening announced that the Jubilee Party was pleased with preparations undertaken by the IEBC ahead of the repeat Presidential election scheduled for October 26th, 2017.

Addressing the media at Bomas of Kenya shortly after the meeting, DP Ruto mentioned that his party had no demands like those fronted by their competitors.

“We are happy with the preparations that have been put in place by the IEBC.

“As a party, we have no conditions, no minimum conditions, and no irreducible minimum conditions,” the DP was quoted by the Nation.

Regarding the amendment of the electoral laws, the DP explained that the matter is before the National Assembly adding that anyone with any concerns should raise them with the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee which began public hearings on Tuesday.

“Parliament is an independent institution and the IEBC and indeed any member of the public have the opportunity to engage Parliament on matters to do with this legislation,” he stated.

The DP's meeting with the electoral agency came shortly after the National Super Alliance (NASA) also held a similar discussion with the Commission.

Speaking to Journalists on Tuesday, Siaya Senator James Orengo stated that IEBC had not addressed their 'irreducible minimum' and as such no agreement was reached between the two parties.

"The best that has happened is that there’s going to be a meeting later in the days in which we hope all the issues we’d raised are going to be addressed," Orengo stated.
