7 Elgeyo Marakwet County Cabinet Members Fired

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos has sacked seven out of nine members of his cabinet who headed various ministries during his first term.

This was revealed after he submitted a shortlist of new county executive committee members to the county assembly for approval on Tuesday.

Those affected include Stephen Biwott (Finance), Stella Rono (Education), Thomas Ruto (Health), Maurice Rotich (Roads), Simon Kiplagat (Environment), Shadrack Chelimo (ICT and Public Service) and Monica Rotich (Youth and Sports).

The Governor retained Shadrack Tatich (Agriculture) and Anne Kibosia (Tourism).

Those sent home will be replaced by Joseph Kimutai (Livestock), Isaac Kamar (Finance), Leah Rono (Public Service), Kevin Biwott (Roads), Anita Kimwatan (Youth and Sports), Abraham Borsosio (Water and Environment) and Kiprono Chepkok (Health).

Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Speaker Christopher Chemosong said the assembly will start vetting the nominees next week.

During his inaguration in August, the governor said he would select the best professionals to serve in the executive positions.

"Applications will be open to all qualified residents of Elgeyo Marakwet. We will recruit the best," the Governor stated.

Tolgos also restructured the ministries splitting the Agriculture docket into Livestock, Cooperatives, Fisheries and Irrigation departments.

The Governor stated that increasing the number of ministries would improve service delivery.
