Lawyer In NASA Petition Reveals Truth Behind Meeting With Roselyne Akombe

Top Nairobi lawyer Evans Monari has rubbished an image widely circulated online on Wednesday claiming that he held a secret meeting with IEBC commissioner Roselyne Akombe.

Those circulating the images purported that the lawyer was acting for President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Monari stated: "I was in court this morning representing the IEBC, they are my clients. What is the problem?"

The lawyer further declared that he has been a lawyer for over 30 years and does not engage in any underhand dealings whatsoever.

Monari was at the High Court on Wednesday morning representing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) in a case where three voters are seeking to stop the electoral body's Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba and commissioners from conducting the fresh Presidential election scheduled for October 26th.

In the case heard by Justice John Mativo, Monari argued that the Commission should be allowed to carry out its mandate without intimidation.

He told the judge: “If you will grant orders sought by the petitioners then you will have taken the powers of the tribunal, executive and parliament.”

Brian Asin, Ben Wanasakami and Kevin Alwang’a are seeking to bar the officials from overseeing the fresh polls, arguing that their integrity is in question after they failed to conduct the August 8th Presidential Election in accordance with the law.

The Chebukati-led body argued that the court can be invoked only when a petition has been filed with Parliament and a tribunal set up by the President to investigate the officials.

The National Super Alliance has been using other means to push for the removal of Chiloba, with demonstrations across the nation every Monday and Friday.

The coalition has declared that there will be no election on October 26th if their 'Irreducible Minimums' demands are not met.
