Government Changes its Decision on NASA Demos

The government has changed its earlier tune of warning the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition against holding demonstrations in Nairobi's CBD.

Speaking to reporters on Fridays, Nairobi Police Boss Japheth Koome stated that the opposition coalition was now free to hold their demonstrations near the IEBC offices.

"If political leaders want to come to Anniversary Towers, they are allowed but peacefully," the police boss explained.

On Thursday, Government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe warned the coalition against holding the demos stating that they have disrupted business in the CBD.

He urged the opposition leaders to sell their agenda peacefully without inciting Kenyans.

Kiraithe further accused NASA of holding the country at ransom, hurting the economy in the processs.

“As we emphasize that it is your right to participate in such demonstrations, we want citizens to know that for over six months now, the economy has greatly slowed down and as a country, we cannot afford this trend,” he conveyed.

The coalition has been pushing for the ouster of CEO Ezra Chiloba and implementation of other reforms before holding the October presidential election.

Meanwhile, Supporters of NASA have commenced their demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) blocking roads in several parts of the country.
