Nairobi Lawyer Miguna Miguna Praises Raila For Withdrawing From Election

Nairobi lawyer Miguna Miguna has lauded National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga after pulling out of the October 26 presidential election.

Miguna thanked Odinga for causing a constitutional crisis as it would 'separate quacks from patriots'.

The lawyer further added that the former Prime Minister's move caught President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto by surprise and they had been 'intellectually outgunned.'

Raila announced his withdrawal from the fresh presidential election on Tuesday afternoon, throwing the country into a state of confusion.

He cited existing circumstances surrounding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), arguing that the contest cannot be free and fair.

Odinga claimed that the planned election amendments show that the Jubilee Party will use their numbers in Parliament to change the constitution.

President Kenyatta, however, stated that he was not fazed by Odinga's latest move, adding that the election would go on as planned.

"He has exercised his democratic right and should let Kenyans exercise their democratic right to elect the President they want," reiterated Kenyatta during his campaign in Voi.

Mr Kenyatta called the opposition’s withdrawal an "injustice" stating that more than Sh12 Billion was spent to prepare for the repeat poll.

"That money would have been used to build roads," he added.
