NASA Leaders Rename Uhuru Park after Opposition Leader Raila Odinga

A section of the National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders on Wednesday ‘renamed’ Nairobi's most frequented recreational area Uhuru Park to Raila Odinga grounds.

Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, the leaders stated that they rebranded the Park to match their weekly protests against the IEBC.

Senator Orengo expressed the Opposition's discomfort in using the facility to hold their reform movement against the electoral commission while it had the President's first name.

“Everywhere we go, Uhuru is being mentioned. So, from today as well as during our demonstrations, this park will be known as Raila Odinga park. And so on Friday, we will meet at Raila Odinga park,” Orengo was quoted by the Nation.

During the same event, Orengo announced that NASA will hold anti-IEBC demonstrations daily beginning next week.

The move to protest daily comes as the latest change to the demonstrations which are now in the third week.

Other leaders who attended the event included; Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama.

On Wednesday, NASA held demonstrations in various parts of the country including Kisumu and Homabay.

In Nairobi, the protests were largely peaceful with the demonstrators matching around the CBD chanting slogans against IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba.

In Kisumu, the situation was different as protestors threw stones inside Kondele Police Station which sparked running battles between demonstrators and police officers.
