Raila Explains Why He Wants to Meet Uhuru

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday stated that he wants to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss electoral reforms but not to negotiate a power-sharing deal.

Odinga was speaking at Wilson Airport where he rubbished reports that he is pushing for a nusu-mkate (coalition) government.

The Opposition leader is pushing for reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and had issued a number of 'irreducible minimums' that he wanted to be addressed.

"As for dialogue we are ready all the time, but you have seen Uhuru say we want nusu-mkate...because of that, we have never called him. We cannot go for nusu-mkate when we deserve the whole loaf.

"DP William Ruto is the one who came up with that concept. He is the greedy one.

"If Uhuru is ready to talk about free and fair elections I'm ready anytime. I was ready yesterday," he stated.

The former Prime Minister also added that the demonstrations against the IEBC would be more peaceful and his team would ensure no property is damaged.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mr Odinga criticized Kenyatta for the killings that have taken place during the protests and bashed Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i for allegdly funding criminal gangs to cause havoc in NASA strongholds.

European Union leaders have urged Odinga and Kenyatta to embrace dialogue to ensure the country progresses and to put an end to the political uncertainty.

The IEBC has also made some changes towards ensuring the election is credible and gave in to 20 of the 34 demands given by NASA.

The poll body, however, refused to sack CEO Ezra Chiloba and a number of other top commissioners on grounds that it did not see how they messed up the August polls.
