Ekuru Aukot Speaks On Being Paid Sh400 Million

Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot has vehemently denied claims that he was paid Sh400 Million to drop his firm stand on reforms within the IEBC.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, through his Twitter account, had accused Dr. Aukot of receiving the money at a Nairobi hotel.

According to the MP, Aukot was paid after meeting with unknown people who urged him to soften his stand against the electoral body.

Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Dr. Aukot dismissed Babu’s claims as "cheap politics by mediocre people".

“It’s absolute nonsense. I wish I had that kind of money. Kenya would be different now. I don’t give credence to cheap politics of mediocre people like Babu Owino. It’s his ilk I want to remove in the leadership of Kenya,” Dr. Aukot stated.

He, however, maintained that changes and reforms must be effected at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission before the much-anticipated presidential poll.

“We are still firm on changes at IEBC. We will also not sacrifice Kenya for selfish politics,” he affirmed.

Dr Aukot added that the issues they have with IEBC must be sorted out before they participate in the repeat election scheduled for next week. He warned that they will not be hesitant to move to the Supreme Court if the election is bungled again.

Aukot stated that they are concerned as their names had not been configured into the Kenya Integrated Elections Management Sytem (KIEMS) kits.

“I talked to IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba yesterday and he denied the reports. We want this assurance in writing or else we will be moving to the Supreme Court,” Aukot ascertained.

According to results from the previous presidential election, Dr Aukot managed to get less than 1 percent of the votes cast. On demanding his incorporation in the October 26 election, High Court Judge John Mativo ruled that there was no reason to bar Aukot from contesting in the fresh election.
