Francis Atwoli Sends Urgent Message to Wafula Chebukati

The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has asked IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati to be bold enough and ask for more time to prepare for the repeat presidential election.

Atwoli stated that there would be no credible election on the set date of October 26th involving the National Super Alliance (NASA) and the Jubilee Party.

He maintained that the poll should be postponed until all sides reach a middle ground to guarantee a violence-free exercise.

Atwoli noted that he did not belong to either party and was only giving his opinion on the way forward.

"Chebukati is not acting bold enough in his decision as a Luhya. He needs to stand up and ask for more time, even if it's three months to adequately prepare for the repeat election," Atwoli stated.

"There must be dialogue for each side to know who are the handlers of elections and what are the rules of the game," he added.

This comes after Chebukati announced that he could not guarantee a credible poll under the current conditions and with a divided commission.

The IEBC Chairperson, however, maintained that he would preside over the poll and vowed not to resign.

IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe revealed that Mr  Chebukati was under intense pressure.

Dr Akombe explained that the Chairperson did not have the required support in the Commission which was inhibiting him from solving the crisis facing the country.
