Boinnet's Message Over Jubilee Women Wearing Military Uniform

In recent weeks, several women politicians allied to the Jubilee Party have been pictured in military gear during rallies, raising concern all over the country.

Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet has finally spoken out on this issue stating he has indeed seen the leaders on television, but noted that it would be a concern only if the military attire donned by the politicians resembles official police uniform.

"I have seen some but it will be a concern if they appear like ours.

"If they belong to someone else we won't be interested. We have even taken people to court for putting on police uniform," stated Boinnet on Tuesday during an interview on KTN News.

Earlier this month, more than 4,000 women went to State House, Nairobi, to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta dressed in bright red shirts chanting “Viva Jubilee Viva. We are your army."

Since then, the team led by their patron, former Nairobi Woman Rep Rachel Shebesh, has been traversing the country drumming up support for Kenyatta dressed in military jungle uniforms and red berets but their mission has been questioned.

During Mashujaa Day celebrations, the leaders were in Mombasa to campaign and President Kenyatta's sister Nyokabi Kenyatta made an appearance urging the residents to vote for his brother.

"Viva Mombasa viva," she chanted, amid cheers from the crowd.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has also been pictured in several rallies wearing military gear and during a recent rally in her county, she reiterated that she is part of President Kenyatta's army.

“We are Uhuru’s army and we will defend him,” stated Waiguru, acknowledging salutes from dozens of women wearing military clothes.

According to sources, the group is led by ‘generals’ and has recruited ‘brigadiers’ spread across the 47 counties .

Some of the group's generals include Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi, Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso and Ms Waiguru.
