Raila Announces Next Move After Presidential Election

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has given the way forward for the coalition and its supporters following the conclusion of the repeat Presidential election.

Mr Odinga reiterated that the poll was a sham and claimed he had evidence that the actual voter turnout was under 3.5 million.

He stated that the Jubilee administration was committed to destroying democracy by robbing the people of their ability to put a government in place through the ballot.

The former Prime Minister divulged that with a 'manufactured majority' in Parliament, nothing was stopping the administration from changing the constitution to remove provisions such as term limits and plunge the country into despotism.

"If there’s no justice for the people, let there be no peace for the government," Odinga declared.

He then announced the formation of a People's Assembly as part of NASA's new wing, the Resistance Movement.

The People's Assembly will be a broad group made up of youth, elected leaders, women, civil society, trade unions and religious leaders.

Odinga stated that the Assembly would be the vehicle that would be used to take Kenya back to democracy and constitutionalism.

A task force will be set up to look into various issues including the failure of electoral and other independent bodies, protection of devolution and historical grievances.

The recommendations of the task force will then be brought before the People's Assembly for ratification.

If agreed upon, the recommendations will be taken to various county assemblies for adoption.

Mr Odinga also stated that they would exercise their right to demonstrate, picket and present petitions to public bodies. He disparaged the Jubilee Government for trying to criminalize dissent.
