High Court Throws Out Petition Against NASA Governor

The Malindi High Court has thrown out a petition challenging Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi’s win.

Justice Weldon Korir ruled that the petition which was filed by Jubilee Party supporter, Mr William Kahindi, was submitted outside the stipulated time.

Mr Kahindi, who was represented by lawyer Yusuf Aboubakar challenged Mr Kingi’s election citing irregularities and illegalities in the August 8 polls.

The petitioner urged the court to enjoin IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati while consolidating the case.

In the petition, Kilifi County Returning Officer, Nelly Illongo and IEBC were accused of presiding over illegalities.

In the petition, the parties cited that the IEBC systems were hacked during the August election.

Kahindi's case was enjoined with that of Kilifi gubernatorial looser Kazungu Kambi.

Kambi claimed he had results indicating that Kingi came a distant third with 46,781 votes.

The former CS argued that during the tallying, he wrote a complaint letter to the Kilifi Returning Officer but she did not receive it.

Kingi who vied on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party ticket garnered 280,686 votes against Kambi’s 44, 470.
