Urgent Notice to All University of Nairobi Students

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has announced new dates when all students are expected to report back one month after the institution was closed indefinitely.

In a notice issued on local newspapers on Friday, the University announced that students should resume their studies on November 6th and 13th.

A representative at the Dean of Students Office told Kenyans.co.ke that the announcement was official clarifying that the opening dates were specific for different colleges.

"The schools that are scheduled to reopen on November 6th are the College of Agriculture, Education, and Health Sciences while the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will resume on the following week on November 13th," the official stated.

Open and Distance learning, Postgraduate and Module II students operating the evening classes were also ordered to resume classes on November 6th.

Last month, the University was closed indefinitely with the Senate citing 'deteriorating security' as the major reason behind the closure.

The students were protesting the alleged brutality police meted out on them and blamed Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Mbithi for the incident.

During the protests, students demanded the immediate resignation of the VC who admitted he had invited the police to control unrest in the institution.

Following the closure, a group of students gathered outside the Vice Chancellor's office demanding a refund of school fees.

The students accused Professor Mbithi of "wasting their time and money" by abruptly shutting down the institution following demonstrations.
