Chairman of the Muslims for Human Rights (MUHURI) activist group, Mr Khalef Khalifa has been summoned by the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) Board.
The government body has accused Mr Khalifa of tax evasion and ordered him to appear before the board on Monday, November 6th.
In a letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the summons informed Mr Khalef that the government had been tracking his activities for two years.
"Reference is made to your financial returns for the past two years and further to the concerns raised by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Financial Reporting Centre (FRC) on the status of your organisation's finances.

"It would seem that your organisation has not been filing the true reflection of your finances which therefore raises doubts as to what other activities you are involved in," the letter read in part.
The letter issued by the Office of the President further raised concerns on the governance structure of MUHURI.
"The Board is, therefore, considering carrying out both investigative and forensic audit on your organisation, however, before we proceed with the same, I wish to advise you that the Chairman, Secretary/CEO, the Treasurer and the Finance Manager are hereby summoned," the letter outlined, providing an 10 am appointment.
Responding to the summons, Mr Khalifa told Kenyans.co.ke that he was not ready to appear before the board and that he would pursue the matter in court.
"We have no intention to appear before the board on Monday. We are moving to court seeking a cease and desist order against them.
"This is nothing but intimidation and it is all because of two cases I've filed against the government. First, I had sued the government for defamation two years ago and recently I filed a case against President Uhuru Kenyatta," he declared.
Mr Kahalifa, along with Mr Samuel Mohochi and Mr Gacheke Gachuhi, had filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking to bar IEBC from conducting the October 26 repeat presidential election.
