Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to unveil New Nairobi Team

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced plans to set up a committee to audit all outstanding debts owed to suppliers.

Sonko stated that he made plans to form the committee after discovering that some claims by the creditors were fictitious.

Reports indicate that private garbage contractors are demanding in excess of Sh700 Million from the county including arrears that were not settled during former Governor Evans Kidero's administration.

The County boss noted the evaluation team would scrutinise all invoices submitted against contracts awarded during Kidero’s tenure.

Sonko noted that he would not renew any contract signed during Kidero’s tenure as the people contracted had turned out to be saboteurs.

“Like I said when I took over office as the governor, I was willing to work with everyone and not to sack people even ministers but it has turned out they are only sabotaging service delivery. My administration will not tolerate any form of corruption. The county has 15,000 workers and there are so many lorries and trucks deliberately grounded so that people can do business instead of being used to collect garbage. This will not happen,” Sonko stated.

“I will form a pending bills evaluation committee to audit all work done by contractors. There is a cartel of contractors and suppliers who never did any work or did air supply. Garbage contractors are some of them,” he added.

Last month, Governor Sonko sent home all County Executive Committee (CEC) members who served under Mr Kidero.

He unveiled a new team of 10 CECs who included the Chairman of Media Council and Star Chief Editor Charles Kerich

The appointed cabinet members are set to assume office from this week.
