Boinnet Goes After Controversial Eye Witness

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has announced plans to open an investigation on an eye-witness who appeared at the scene of Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru’s accident and Lake Nakuru Chopper Crash.

Speaking during a press briefing in Mombasa on Wednesday, Boinnet stated that he was keen to know who the ‘witness in Chief is’.

Boinnet stated that the investigation will determine among other things whether Dennis Muigai Ngengi is a police officer.

“It is said that there is an individual who appeared in both scenes of accidents. It is claimed that he is a police officer but I am not certain about that. But I will find out if he is an officer or not.,” Boinnet stated.

“If yes he is really an officer, then I will be interested in knowing what he might be doing in those two accidents,” he added.

Ngengi was at the scene during the fatal Thika-Murang'a road accident that claimed the life of Governor Gakuru.

He gave eyewitness accounts to the media claiming he was driving behind the governor's car when the accident happened.

During the Lake Nakuru crash, he identified himself by the same name (Dennis Muigai Ngengi) and stated that he was a 'pilot of the state'.

Mr Ngengi, however, refuted claims that he was the same person who had witnessed the fatal chopper crash despite video footage suggesting otherwise.

The most striking similarities that people noticed were the signature sunglasses and a conspicuous earpiece.
