Names of 2 Countries to be Formed if Kenya is Divided - MP Reveals

New details have emerged indicating that the National Super Alliance (NASA) wants the country to be divided into the new People's Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Kenya as part of its secession push.

Reports in the Star indicate that Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma had finalized a bill to amend the 2010 Constitution to create two republics.

The MP wants the constitution amended to allow for the creation of two countries.

"It is proposed to amend the Constitution of Kenya 2010 under 255(1)(b) and (2) of the Constitution as read together with Article 5 of the Constitution to redefine the territory of Kenya and allow for the creation of two new countries,” the draft bill read in part.

According to Kaluma, dividing the country will bring an end to exclusion, tribalism, corruption, inequities, impunity and general bad governance by the Jubilee administration.

The Legislator is reported to have submitted the bill to the IEBC for review after which if accepted by the Commission it will be forwarded to the County Assemblies for debate.

If the Bill is approved by a majority of the assemblies, it will be taken to Parliament for approval before a referendum is held.

Last week, a section of NASA leaders led by Governors; Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi) and Senator Stewart Madzayo announced the commencement of a process to secede the coastal region from Kenya.

Addressing the media in Mombasa, the leaders explained that the Government had no moral authority to govern them and as such, they had begun the process of pulling out from Kenya.

"It is no longer feasible for us as a people to continue in a country that doesn't recognise our aspirations as legitimate.

"We, therefore, wish to announce the beginning of a consultative process towards secession of the coastal region," the statement read in part.

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Raila Odinga on Thursday commented on the issue stating that the calls for secession were as a result of exclusivity by the national government.

“The biggest problem in Kenya right now is exclusion. When you see people begin to talk about secession, it basically tells you here is something seriously wrong with Kenya that must be addressed or else the country tears apart,” Odinga stated while addressing a gathering in the United States.
