Governors Explain Why They Snubbed Nyeri’s Swearing-in Ceremony

The Council of Governors (CoG) has explained why they were a no-show at the swearing-in ceremony of Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

The CoG defended itself stating that the ceremony was conducted on short notice and they had prior engagements that held them back.

"The council was invited to the ceremony on Sunday evening. However, due to the short timing of the ceremony, the council registered its apologizes," CoG Director of Communication Andrew Teyie stated.

However, the CoG sent its goodwill messages and promised to support the new Governor as he takes up duties in Nyeri county.

According to a statement issued by Mr Teyie, Chairman Josphat Nanok was also away on official duty and could not make it to the ceremony.

"Nanok is out of the country on official duty but has congratulated his brother Kahiga. The CoG fully supports Kahiga and is wholly involved in planning Gakuru's funeral," he stated.

Kahiga, who was the Deputy Governor, was sworn in as the fourth county chief following the death of Wahome Gakuru after a road accident last week.

Mr Teyie further assured Kenyans that the council was non-partisan in county operations and they supported all 47 counties.

Governor Kahiga was inaugurated to office as the fourth Governor of Nyeri County on Monday in a colorful ceremony.
