Governor Sonko Explains Why He Escaped From Prison

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Thursday explained that he escaped from Shimo la Tewa Prison in 1998 to attend his mother's burial ceremony.

He mentioned this in his prayer ahead of the hearing of an application filed by former Governor Evans Kidero, seeking to be enjoined in a petition by two voters, Japheth Muroko and Zacheous Okoth challenging his election.

"You stood by me throughout my childhood and school life. When I escaped from prison to attend my late mum's burial you gave me victory, and I was acquitted," Mr Sonko noted.

He stated that throughout his political career he has always been a servant of the people adding that God's mercy should be seen during the Court ruling.

"Lord, you have always been fighting my battles on my behalf, It is because of you that I have never fought a losing battle throughout my life," Governor Sonko stated in a Facebook post.

He also testified how God granted him victory when he ventured into business, vied for the Makadara Parliamentary seat, senatorial seat and recently when he successfully vied for Governorship.

He also mentioned the previous circumstances when God used him to save the lives of the needy and helpless in the society.

"Father when the Al-Shabaab shot dead baby Satrin and elder Bro's(Gift) mum in a church at the Coast, you ashamed the devil by again using me to rescue these angels.

"Father, when two elderly women, one aged 100 yrs, and the other 97 yrs were incarcerated in Embu and Migori prisons respectively you touched me and sent me to facilitate their release from prison," he noted.
