Duale Vows to Move on Without NASA MPs

The Jubilee coalition has vowed to form parliamentary committees next week without National Super Alliance (NASA) legislators if they fail to submit names of their members.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale ascertained that they were not going to allow Opposition Members of Parliament to continue "holding them hostage".

"I have already forwarded the list for the Selection Committee to discuss it next week. Thereafter, we will constitute all relevant committees," the House Majority leader stated.

"We have already given them enough time. If they don't bring their list next week, let them bring it next year. We will approve," Mr Duale added.

The lawmaker argued that Jubilee Party members are capable of raising the requisite quorum for committees to discharge their work without their NASA colleagues.

Mr Duale cited the House Business Committee that is composed of only Jubilee MPs and chaired by Speaker Muturi as the Opposition did not submit names.

Legislators will resume from their short November recess next Tuesday and both Houses are expected to go on a 10-week holiday from December 8 to February 12, 2018.

House Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Kenneth Lusaka (Senate) received communication of NASA chief executive officer Norman Magaya assuring them that the coalition will submit the list by November 30.

Mr Magaya stated that they were dealing with serious issues on Kenya's top leadership and the House leadership list was not top on their agenda.

The coalition is, however, supposed to fill the positions of deputy minority leaders, chief whips and deputies and the chairs of two powerful watchdog committees - Public Accounts and Public Investment.
