Mombasa Leaders Ask Raila to Quit Politics

The Mombasa Council of Elders has asked National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga and the rest of the coalition's principals to quit politics if they cannot concede defeat to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The group urged NASA to accept President Kenyatta's victory in the repeat election and focus on development.

Council Chair Mohammed Jahazi stated: "Kenya is bigger than individuals. Do not enter the race if you cannot accept losing."

"Kenya has been at a standstill with no investments, projects and life. Politics has dominated the country since the days of the ICC," he continued.

They were addressing a press conference held at Uhuru Na Kazi building on Tuesday evening.

Jahazi, a former Mvita MP, noted that the tourism industry had taken a major hit due to the lengthened electioneering period.

He warned that the international community could make Kenya a pariah state if the impasse was not resolved.

He stated: "We lost time and other resources. Guests started shunning Kenya. The tourism sector suffered but God has given an answer. In politics, there is winning and losing.

"In a football competition when a trophy is won, the losing side cannot ask for the trophy to be split into two so they can also get a share," Jahazi concluded.

NASA has maintained that the President Kenyatta-led administration is illegitimate, but they have not announced their next step after the Supreme Court upheld his win in the repeat poll, paving the way for his inauguration.
