Chaos Erupts in Kayole After Shooting [PHOTOS]

Fresh protests erupted in Nairobi's Kayole Estate on Friday after residents barricaded roads following the shooting of a garbage collector.

Residents allege that the unidentified man was shot by police and were demanding justice.

Transport in the area was paralysed for the better part of the morning as police engaged protesters in running battles.

Last weekend, tension was high in the area as a group of young men was terrorising residents in actions that were believed to be related to the political situation of the country.

At least five people were killed last Friday as police tried to disperse supporters accompanying opposition leader Raila Odinga from the airport to the CBD.

Police fired tear gas at the convoy in which Odinga was traveling and some protesters hurled stones at police.

During the melee, two vehicles, including a police truck, were set on fire.

On Wednesday, a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) women MPs claimed that at least 50 people had been killed by police since last Friday.

Speaking during a rally in Kibra, the leaders accused the government of not taking any action despite the killings of innocent civilians.

Led by Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, Homa Bay County Woman Rep Gladys Wanga and her Busia counterpart, Florence Mutua, the leaders also accused police of stoning private vehicles.
