Police Issue Statement On Parallel Tuesday Rally

Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome has announced that no permit has been issued for any other public event on Tuesday, November 28, when President Uhuru Kenyatta will be taking his oath of office.

Addressing a press briefing on Saturday, Koome asked anyone planning to hold a rally to notify the local OCS.

He stated: "Our laws are very clear, all of us must obey the laws of Kenya.

"Chapter 56 talks about public order...Nobody has notified any of my officers about another meeting," he continued.

Koome further declared that anyone who contravened the law would be dealt with firmly.

He stated that a multi-agency security operation had been put in place for the Tuesday event.

Various roads have been marked as 'red zones' and will be manned by security officers from 5.30 am.

He urged Kenyans to co-operate with law enforcement to ensure the day is a success.

Mr Koome divulged that officers from other counties and specialized agencies had been called to assist with the operation.

At least 20 Heads of State are expected to grace the event.
