Government Bans Night Weddings in Mombasa

The Government of Kenya on Saturday banned night weddings without police protection in Mombasa County.

Mombasa county commissioner Evans Echoki noted that all weddings in the area must be protected by armed police officers.

Mr Echoki who is also the county security committee chairman noted that the move was aimed at avoiding security threats during the long festive period.

He explained that the decision to ban night weddings was arrived at to secure the tourism sector in the region.

He called upon all individuals to ensure that they have sufficient security before holding any wedding.

Addressing wedding organizers.Mr Echoki stated that the Police and the OCS must be notified of any wedding plans before proceeding with the event.

''This is the period we have weddings in the region, if you are holding a wedding, make sure you have security. 

''If you hold the wedding late into the night, notify police and the OCS to ensure you have security,'' Mr Echoki noted.

He also urged all religious leaders to help in fighting radicalization and also preaching peace.
