Chaos ensued after police fired teargas to disperse a large group of people who were trying to gain entry into the Kasarani Stadium for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s swearing-in ceremony.
It turned into a full stampede after the huge crowd pushed its way through the gates which resulted in a number of people being badly injured.
Once the barrier was breached by the rowdy crowd, everyone attempted to rush into the main auditorium where the inauguration was taking place.
The disorderly crowd then started throwing stones towards the police, forcing the security apparatus to take cover and lob teargas towards them.

Members of the Nairobi County Health Department who rescued people stated that several had suffered fractures and were receiving first aid at the stadium.
Additionally, those who were seriously injured were rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for further treatment.

The officers were accused of failing to control the crowds as the masses pushed through the barriers.
Attempts by police to push the people escalated the melee and some took this opportunity to force their way into the stadium to witness the historic occasion.
Many Kenyans were, however, locked out of the stadium and were forced to take positions on top of buildings to watch President Kenyatta’s swearing-in.
Mr Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto were sworn in on Tuesday for their second term in office.
